JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate provides support to the post of Operations Support Officer (OSO).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate:
-Assists in monitoring and reporting on:
the living conditions of Palestine refugees and other persons of concern to UNRWA;
their access to humanitarian services provided by UNRWA and other humanitarian actors in Gaza, that affect the dignity, physical safety, welfare and protection of Palestine refugees and other persons of concern to UNRWA.
-Assists in gathering information and data with a view to ensure integrity in the application and implementation of UNRWA policies and procedures related to beneficiaries;
-Assists in inspecting UNRWA's property and any assets that the Agency controls, including UNRWA’s facilities, to ensure that they are used only as intended and to assess any damages sustained resulting from hostilities;
-Assists the OSO in gathering information and data on the humanitarian services provided by other organisations and local authorities, for the purpose of strategic and humanitarian programming;
-Assists the OSO in communicating and explaining UNRWA’s mandate to refugee community; advising on issues related to the Agency's facilities;
-Performs such other duties as may be required.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
-A university degree, preferably in social science, political affairs, international relations, law or a related field.
-At least two years of experience in humanitarian/relief emergency operations.
-Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
-Flexibility, ability to assess and analyse situations quickly, objectively and prudently;
-Ability to build and sustain effective work relationships with clients, partners and authorities to achieve common goals;
-Ability to counsel or deal with people who are in shock or suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder;
-Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural environment;
-Very good communications skills;
-Ability to work under pressure and within a team;
-Ability to make immediate decisions in dangerous situations, to ensure the safety and security of personnel;
-Articulate, politically aware while remaining impartial and discreet at all times.
-It is desirable to have: experience with radio communication procedures; experience working in human rights affairs; possession of a valid driving license as the incumbent of the post may be required to travel in the field during the performance of his/her duties.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
-The monthly basic salary is $1,013.40; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 23.47%) and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25. Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
-Leave: 30 days annual leave
-Pension: Provident Fund contribution
-Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
