The Senior Road Safety Engineer must be a qualified Engineer with highway project delivery skills and a history of participating in the delivery of: highway corridor improvement; traffic management and traffic diversion plans; and other safety schemes, strategies and projects. It is also important for the Senior Road Safety Engineer to have road safety specific memberships and qualifications including those generally required for Road Safety Audits. A background in assessing driver behaviour and experience would also be an advantage. The Senior Road Safety Engineer should be qualified to PE, CEng or IEng level; have a minimum of 15 years’ experience of highways and transportation projects and be a member of an Engineering Organisation recognised under international agreement with 10 years post registration experience. Principle Activities The Senior Road Safety Engineer will be responsible for supporting the management team in maintaining and enhancing Atkins’ reputation with our clients and developing effective long term client relationships in the supply of our Road Safety Audit service. Contribute to the execution and delivery of Road Safety Audits and other Road Safety Engineering project inputs; Interact with colleagues and managers to ensure Atkins maintain high standards and integrity in the delivery of the Road Safety business in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and across the Middle East; Assist in the project management and coordination of Road Safety Audits, as necessary. Assist in the development the Road Safety discipline and play a supportive role within Atkins’ contracts with internal and external stakeholders and clients and; Assist in the identification of the appropriate resources to meet current and future commitments to meet Road Safety Engineering opportunities. The Senior Road Safety Engineer should: Be an experienced Road Safety practitioner with a demonstrable track record in the delivery of Road Safety Engineering on projects of various scales, preferably for both local roads and motorways/ expressways; Have experience and training in Road Safety Engineering/Audits and crash/collision investigation and prevention; Demonstrate a good knowledge of highway design and/or traffic engineering and be able to contribute skills in these areas beyond Road Safety Auditing; Be a proactive team player capable of working with planners, designers and other professional on delivering safe design in roads and highways; Be willing to travel within the Middle East region in support the expansion of Atkins’ Road Safety service provision; Have insight into or a working knowledge of the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual processes or similar routines for the collection and analysis of data relevant to Road Safety assessment; Possess a “rounded profile”, comfortable with planning, analysis and communicating with people at all levels; and; Be effective in maintaining good working relationships within a wide reaching business, both within project teams internally and with clients.
