Title: Access Program Officer Position: Full Time Application End Date: June 10, 2014 Immediate Supervisor: EL and Access Coordinator, AMIDEAST/Sanaa Overall Supervision: Country Director, AMIDEAST/Yemen Responsibilities: • Manages the day-to-day activities and reporting of the U.S. Department of State's Access • Microscholarship Program, a scholarship program that provides underserved youth with up to two • years of free English language study and engages them in a variety of volunteer and cultural • activities. Incumbent will be expected to travel locally and to different cities in Yemen as part of • his/her program duties. Specific tasks include: • Oversee all aspects of Access program management in Sanaa and any outreach sites • (currently, Hodeidah); • Plan and implement at least one mandatory Access student activity per session • (including conducting preparatory site visits); • Provide orientations to all new students; • Plan and implement multiple voluntary Access activities per session; • Make sure that teacher feedback forms and other documents pertaining to Access • students are distributed and returned in a timely manner; • Conduct personal interviews with each Access student every quarter; • Collect Access student photos and other work/portfolio-type documents for timely • submission in report format; • Make sure that quarterly reports are prepared, edited, and forwarded to the Country • Director; • Assure that Access students are properly recorded into the database and update records • when necessary; • Help coordinate recruitment and selection for new Access students; • Coordinate with the Access program in Aden; • Oversee EL/Access Assistant and Access interns; • Ensure American cultural content in all Access and EL programming; • Coordinate with EL department to resolve academic issues, level placements, class • assignments, and any other student- or teacher-related matters. • Provide backup administrative support when required; • Coordinate Access activities with the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section where relevant; • Arrange for media coverage of selected events; and • Perform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and Country Director. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of study; • Strong Arabic and English language skills; • Ability to write reports in English; • Two to five years’ of prior work experience preferred; • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications; and • Interest in youth activities; Application Process: Applicants must apply online at www.yemenjobs.org.
