Ref: GP848-94 Reports to : Operations Manager Supervises : Field Staff Basic Function Supervise drilling activites at offshore project locations and Company Base. Enure operations are performed safely and efficiently and achieve Company quality standards for testing and obtaining samples in line project requirements. 1. Primary Duties and Responsibilities a) Supervise assigned drill crew activies at the work location. b) Perform duties as directed by Operations Manager and Operations Superintendent. c) Maintain economic drilling production rates and high sample quality by selection of appropriate tooling and or drilling techniques. d) Ensure all drilling plant in use at the work site is in good working order and report any faults to the Operations Manager in a timely manner. e) Supervise assigned drilli crews on limiting capabilities of drilling sampling and testing equipment in order to minimise damage and loss. f) Advise site engineering staff of any operational risks which may require a review of the sampling and testing regime. g) Ensure that sufficient plant spares are available at the worksite. h) Inspect work performed by assigned staff and reinforce standards set Company i) Check that sufficient correctly specified drilling, sampling and testing tools are available at the work site. j) Plan all operational consumables are available in sufficient quantities at the worksite. k) Report a deficit in any of the above materials to the Operations Manager and Operations Superintendent in a timely manner. 2. Specific Additional Duties a) During equipment mobilisation and demobilization: a.1. Organise the workforce for effective 24 hour operations. a.2. Request specialist services, 3rd party plant hire and labour from the Operations Coordinator or Plant Manager as appropriate. a.3. Plan the lifting schedule and ensure that all lifting operations are carried out in a safe and controlled manner. a.4. Ensure that all cutting and welding activities are supervised and that the correct mitigation measures are in place. b) Produce a report on the following topics on a monthly and end of project basis: b.1. Drilling fluid and chemical usage. b.2. Spares usage. b.3. Consumables usage. b.4. Equipment status, maintenance and fault reporting. c) On completion of each project produce a project debriefing report to include but not limited to the following: c.1. Brief summary of project performance c.2. Lessons learned c.3. Individual drill crew evaluations according to IMS form FSME 930 11 c.4. Evaluation of subcontractor/ subcontracted opco technical performance 3. HSEQ Responsibilities a) Lead by example and implement Company Golden Rules and encourage a strong safety culture. b) Plan and supervise lift operations and inspect/manage all lift appliances at work location c) Do not take any action which places yourself or others at risk. d) Be aware of the general requirements for safety with continued self development. e) Investigate and lead teams to investigate incidents leading to close out of actions f) Maintain a personal awareness for the safety of yourself and others and set a leadership example at all times g) Ensure that all operations are carried out in accordance with the company’s quality procedures and HSE policies. 4. Principal Working Relationships a) Liase with the site engineering staff to ensure that drilling, sampling and testing activities are carried out to the correct specification. b) Work closely with Operations Superintendent and adhere to the responsibilities shared and or provided by him. c) Instruct assigned drill team and specialists from other Fugro Opcos or 3rd Party subcontractors to ensure safe and operations (lifting/drilling/sampling/testing). d) Liase with Site Manager and vessel Master to ensure that all operations are carried out in a safe and efficient manner. e) Inform site engineering staff of the limiting operational capabilities for sampling and testing equipment in order to mitigate damage and loss of equipment. f) Inform site engineering staff of any operational risks which may require a review of the sampling and testing program. 5. Qualifications required: a) High scool certificate or applicable Diploma. 6. Skills / experience required to do the job: a) Min. 5 years experience as a Driller on offshore geotechnical vessels. b) Familiar with the operation of passive drillstring motion compensators and seabed frame line-tensioners. c) Familiar with the requirements of drilling for downhole wireline CPT and sampling systems. d) Familiar with the wireline coring techniques necessary to achieve acceptable core recovery in offshore superficial sediments. e) A good understanding of the mechanical operation of a majority of the equipment utilised in drilling operations. f) Ability to communicate well in both spoken and written English.
