INTERSOS is an independent humanitarian aid organization committed to helping and supporting endangered populations, victims of wars and natural disasters.
PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE:
The Activities Coordinator is responsible for overall coordination, under the supervision of the
Project Manager (PM), in accordance with INTERSOS’ mandate, priorities and donor agreement.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
Overview:
Providing guidance to the INTERSOS’ team, including staff and volunteers, working on operational issues related to the conduct of activities; Planning and coordinating with the team for all activities, including assessments, referrals, awareness-raising, and others. Conducting frequent monitoring field visits to closely supervise the INTERSOS protection team and ensure proper implementation of project activities; Monthly reporting and per request, to PM, authorized managers and donor, on the implementation progress, and providing recommendations for activities quality
improvement and project sustainability; Ensuring that the CFSs are run conform to universal protection principles; Assisting the PM in any (other) issues related to the project.
Detailed duties and responsibilities
Management:
- Coordinating and supervising INTERSOS’ project-related activities, including
performance indicator/target tracking, case management, internal and external
capacity building and awareness raising activities;
- Ensuring high quality of INTERSOS’ services/outputs and related records and overall
due project implementation in conformity with local laws, organizational regulations,
donor agreement and the thereby stipulated goals, objectives and deadlines;
- Cooperating and coordinating activities between CFSs and with other INTERSOS’
offices, when requested, at the South Yemen programme level;
- Ensuring synergy with other INTERSOS programme activities in the area of
responsibility;
- Ensuring that all administrative and financial issues related to the area of
responsibility are conducted in accordance with INTERSOS’ guidelines and
requirements;
- Providing suggestions / inputs related to financial management, when needed;
- Reporting, on a regular/periodic and ad hoc basis, on CFS activities and events in the
area of responsibility, in accordance with the INTERSOS’ and UNICEF requirements.
Capacity Building:
- Providing and ensuring ongoing mentorship (on-the-job support) and appraisal of the
team members;
- Designing and implementing INTERSOS’ staff and CFSs’ facilitators training plans;
- Assisting in capacity building for relevant target groups through trainings, workshops
and other joint activities.
Advocacy:
- Liaising with relevant authorities, civil society groups, community leaders and other
stakeholders working locally, aimed at facilitating open communication and
advocating on/ resolving (through appropriate local responses) obstacles identified in
the course of project implementation;
- Participating in general advocacy work in consultation with the CFSs’ supervisors,
PM and/or authorized managers.
Representation:
- Developing and maintaining working relations with relevant UN agencies and other
inter-, intra- and non-governmental organizations in the area of responsibility with the
view to integrate INTERSOS’ activities into comprehensive protection approaches in
the area;
- Maintaining positive and supportive relations with local government.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and experience:
- University degree in management, education, psychology, social sciences or other
related discipline. Advanced university degree would be an advantage;
- Relevant professional experience of not less than three (3) years, preferably at a
coordinator or management level and/or in humanitarian context;
- Prior experience with an international NGO;
- Prior experience in working with or coordinating with other international humanitarian
organizations or governmental authorities;
- Prior experience with persons of concern (including internally displaced persons,
conflict-affected host communities, extremely vulnerable individuals);
- Familiarity with overall protection and protection concepts and principles;
Skills and traits:
- Excellent command of (written and spoken) Arabic and English;
- Computer/IT literacy (Windows, MS Office, Internet etc.);
- Excellent analysis and report writing;
- Strong communication and organizational skills;
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of local communities and customary rules;
- Punctuality and respect for applicable rules and procedures;
- Ethical and transparent decision-making;
- Independence, i.e. conducting tasks with minimal supervision, and stress resilience;
- Flexibility, tolerance and maturity.
