Oxfam, an international NGO working in Yemen since 1983. Oxfam announces the following vacancy for its programme Position: Agriculture Project Officer, (1 position)
Location: Haradh
Contract Duration: Six Months KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • To participate in needs assessments( PVCA/PRA) and research activities at filed level
• To carry out needs and feasibility assessments of agricultural interventions
• To provide technical advice on developing strategies and work plans in order to implement agricultural interventions activities. These include improving use of irrigation water, promoting water harvesting techniques, agricultural group formation, capacity building etc .
• To participate in mobilising and sensitising stake holders including targeted communities , local authorities, partners, etc
• To participate in selection of villages and beneficiaries
• With the support of s/he line manager, to develop and implement strategies and work plans for agric culture support program
• To participate in capacity needs assessment of government agriculture extensions program at district level
• To lead on organising training of the government extension workers who will undertake wider community training
• To design and conduct trainings to small scale farmers in agricultural extension such as in efficient use of water for irrigation purpose, water harvesting practises and drought resistance agricultural practise, etc
• To establish demonstration sites and dissemination of technologies and best practices in order to increased locally produced food such as sorghum, sesame , vegetable and fruit
• To form/strength and support agriculture groups with the objective of promoting information exchanges , experience sharing , culture of working together, etc
• To work towards linking the targeted households and communities with extension, credit and market services delivered by both private, government and non government organisations
• To closely work with WASH team to improve existing tradition irrigation scheme and use of ‘Wadi’
• .To monitor and support beneficiaries so as to ensure quality and timely the implementation of the project activities at field level
• As required, to represent Oxfam at meetings at sub-district and village levels .
• To prepare situation and field monitoring reports on the progress work.
• To ensure the mainstreaming of cross cutting issue (gender, DRR, etc) into the implementation process of the program work .
• Work closely with managers and the logistic team to ensure quality and timely delivery of inputs required for agriculture support program. This includes participating in preparing logistic plan of the team, filling requisitions with clear specifications and close follow up of procurement process with the logistics team
• To participate in team meeting to manage and develop the FSL program
• To participate in other activities of the program as required . SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:
The potholder will have the following attributes: • Degree or equivalent in agriculture preferably in Agronomy , horticulture or irrigation
• At least three years of experience in appropriate agriculture extension , community mobilization, livelihoods support and , cash based programming in early recovery setting
• Proven experience in community action planning processes and in working with partners. Understandinng of OGB partnership policies an added advantage
• Proven ability to work creatively, innovatively, using owns initiative with limited direct supervision as well as a working effectively as a team player.
• Proven assessment and analytical skills and the ability to produce written and verbal reports succinctly.
• Knowledge and experience of promoting gender equity, and an active commitment to promoting the interests of marginalised people in all aspects of Oxfam GB’s work.
• High level of commitment and willingness to work in a harsh environment
• High level of interpersonal communications skills and interest and capacity to learn new things.
• Considerable experience of small farmers’ trainings and capacity building and ability to carry out training needs analysis and develop capacity building strategies based on this analysis. Mentoring and coaching skills • Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic language.
