VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT  YEM2014/PI001/Gen-004    The UNITED NATIONS WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME   Invites both female and male candidates to apply for the following positions: Job Title:    Public Information Assistant-  1 position needed Duty station     Sana’a UN Category:    Service Contract SC5 (SB-3) Duration :    One Year (12 months)    Supervision received: Under the general supervision of the Donor and Private Sector Relations Officer.  Accountabilities: Within delegated authority, the public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and thus are not all-inclusive nor are all duties carried out by all Public Information Assistants) •    Assist in the correct addressing of media queries;  •    Assist in keeping the media updated on WFP’s activities;  •    Work on WFP media/advocacy campaigns, including WFP ambassadors;  •    As required, coordinate the translation of press releases, opinion editorials and other public documents;  •    Draft and upon clearance from supervisor, disseminate press releases in various languages;  •    Follow up on requests for information from media and donors;  •    Assist in the organization of media/donor visits to WFP operations;  •    Assist in producing photographic/video material, brochures and other documentation;  •    Assist in the organization of media interviews;  •    Prepare briefing papers and talking points as required;  •    Assist in placing WFP’s public service announcements in broadcasting stations;  •    Keep  accurate records of media activities;  •    Produce reports on WFP public information activities as required;  •    Perform other related duties as required   Expected Results:   With initiative and judgment produce organized, accurate and well documented records with well analysed data and addresses unforeseen situations seeking advice and guidance from supervisor, as necessary. May assign work to staff in lower grades. Critical Success Factors: Ability to review a variety of data, identify and adjust data discrepancies. Identify and resolve operational problems with substantial independence. Ability to obtain or give factual information of a non-routine nature involving interpretation of facts and requiring clarity of expression. Ability to perform detailed work, frequently of a confidential nature and/or to handle a large volume of work systematically, effectively and accurately. Ability to train other staff regarding relevant work responsibilities. Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate assignments to achieve common goals. Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.  Qualifications: (These are the standard minimum qualifications established by WFP for the effective performance of the tasks described in the Generic Job Profile. Corporate recruitment/workforce planning needs, in addition to local market supply may require changes or amendments to these, as appropriate. Education:  Secondary school education, preferably supplemented by courses in a field related to public information activities. Experience:     At least four years of progressively responsible support experience including at least two years in the field of public information or other related field. At least one year at G4 level or equivalent. Language:      Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
