To lead the implementation and development of the company commercial processes and their overlap with procurement, finance and work-winning in a new company
Professional delivery of sustainable, profitable growth.
As a member of a SMT advising and providing strategic input and Commercial expertise to support the BU:
Delivers elements within their Business Unit Plan to achieve current year's performance
Inputs to planning activities with horizons of typically 1-3 years
Manages activities to support operational delivery and growth for their Business Unit and
Professional Function.
Operates within agreed operational and/or management guidelines
Maintains effective internal and external client or user relationships within own area of responsibility
Ensures that the Commercial, Procurement and Work-Winning & Estimating disciplines are
managed in line with the BU Programme
Applies high level technical skills across a range of functional or business activities
Will build a team with the relevant skill base and expertise to deliver the project in line with the
Client requirements and company’s processes and Procedures.
Maintenance and delivery of the stated profits and margins
Establishment of robust and consistent change control processes
Identify and calculation of appropriate risk and opportunity allowances and their active management
Delivery of consistent value and cost reporting, as required for Business Unit and Project control and review
Identification and implementation of process and/or efficiency improvements.
To provide professional focus, identity and leadership to the Commercial Function within the project or Business Area consistent with Group wide standards and objectives.
Functional Management:
To ensure the effective performance management and development of his/her direct reports, and the
effective organisation of everyone within the commercial activity on the project
To deliver effective management information on commercial activity across the project, including an
analysis of trends and challenges.
Work Winning:
Ensure that delivery costs are properly understood and calculated and manage the estimating process as part of the work winning team.
Support Work Winning teams, where required, in identifying and quantifying risk and opportunity in bids and tenders.
To support and where necessary lead, key negotiations with prospective customers, partners, contractors and sub-contractors.
Where required, ensure a commercial focus is maintained in established and/or developing markets
Ensure that appropriate contracts are in place with all customers that properly manage the companies risk
Contract Delivery:
To take the lead responsibility in developing, implementing and reviewing effective commercial activity within a project, ensuring that:
An overview is maintained of Risk Management processes and procedures, including acting as liaison for internal audit activities
Contractual imperatives (duties, obligations, notices, standards, etc) are observed and discharged to protect company’s position and entitlements under Contract or with Insurances etc
A proper view is taken of periodic performance (financial and progress) per project
To agree strategies with the BU Commercial Director consistent with the BU objectives and timetables
A framework of approved practice and process in commercial activity is followed that is consistent with Group standards, the IMS and corporate governance
In conjunction with key internal ‘partners’ (e.g. Group Risk, Legal, Pre-Contract, Supply Chain, Insurance),
ensure that project/area contractual and insurance issues, including disputes and claims are resolved or properly communicated in order to protect and further the Company’s interests and relationships.
To effectively manage the production of Project Value Enhancement Plans.

Possesses knowledge of one complex functional or business area
Track record of success in supporting a major business contract, Business Unit or region and/or providing support to a professional function
Likely to have in excess of 10 years managerial and/or technical experience. Member of a Professional Body with Intermediate Level Qualifications as a minimum.
