Education Project Officer-Harad(National Position) - Yemen  Norwegian Refugee Council    The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.  The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 3500 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs     The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an International NGO with regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations. The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab, Kakuma and Molo), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Dolo Ado, Shire and Asosa) and Yemen (Sana’a,Aden and Harad).  The main aim of the position is to monitor needs and give support to teachers; and design and improve curriculum and teaching methods for Alternative Basic Education (ABE) and Youth Education Pack (YEP) education activities in Yemen.  Please note: Due to the high number of applications we receive, we will not be able to respond to or process applications that are not submitted formally through our on- line application system for vacancies (WebCruiter).  Job description •    Generate weekly, monthly and quarterly activity plans  •    Assist in developing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools, documentation and reporting on the education activities as required  •    Make school visits to assess, monitor and give support to teachers supported by NRC  •    Actively support the capacity building of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Community,Education Committees (CECs), Head Teachers, Teachers, Parents, Community Leaders  •    Work closely with the MoE and local authorities in the design, implementation and coordination of educational plans, specifically related to the transition of ABE students from non-formal to formal education  •    Create awareness in the community on the importance of education especially for girls, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees and other vulnerable pupils  •    Work closely with School Food Program (SFP) and Shelter projects to ensure a good link in promoting access and quality education  •    Translate various learning materials from English to Arabic language for meaningful local understanding  •    Assist the teacher in developing learning material including teaching aids using locally available materials  •    Participate in workshops, meetings and seminars related to education  •    Work closely with CECs and MoE in identification, recruitment and supervision of ABE or YEP teachers  •    Prepare weekly, monthly and other progress reports as required  •    Assign duties, supervise and appraise Education Assistants. Qualifications •    Bachelor’s university degree in education or related field of study.  •    Proven ability to use MS Office software (especially Word and Excel) is essential. Experience with other computer programs such as SAP 2000 and Microsoft Project would be an advantage.  •    Experience in the rehabilitation of water and sanitation networks, rainwater harvesting and irrigation schemes is a strong advantage.  •    At least 4 years of relevant work experience with an I/NGO Personal qualities •    Good communication and interpersonal skills  •    Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision  •    Flexible, creative and cooperative  •    Practical sense and ability to contribute to education  •    Ability to resolve conflicts  •    Team work  •    Good cultural awareness and sensitivity  •    Community mobilisation skills  •    Excellent capacity building and facilitative supervision skills  •    Can prioritize tasks and manage pressure.  •    Strong analytical skills, able of making decisions.  •    Takes initiatives, has creative thinking and focuses on solutions rather than problems.  •    Is dedicated and focused on results.  •    Open to learning and criticism, willing to improve where needed.  •    Can manage a large workforce, and staff with different set of skills.
