• Post Location: Sana’a
• End of Contract: 31.12.2014 Main Responsibilities
• Provides professional risk information analysis, and timely and correct reporting.
• Monitors closely political and security trends and collects relevant information.
• Manages the incident database.
• Conducts GIS analysis on the database and develops subsequent products including incident mapping and other forms of thematic analysis of risk.
• Develops and maintains a functional system for risk information gathering and analysis and builds relevant contacts/resources.
• Carries out specific tasks concerning the knowledge management in Risk Analysis and Reporting Section (RARS). Main Tasks
• Continuously observes and collects information on social, economic, political and security trends on the national and sub-national levels with focus on risk analysis.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining systematic, cross-referenced knowledge records and databases.
• Analyzes and updates information on social, economic, political and security developments for periodic and thematic reports.
• Co-authors a variety of risk analysis products and reports (e.g. context analysis, monthly situation reports, weekly situation reports, daily press situation reports, situation updates, quarterly situation review, security briefing).
• Contributes to the development and preparation of a variety of risk management documents and activities, briefing papers, welcome packages, security and safety advises and periodical reports.
• Maintains and operates a GIS system (e.g. Google earth, ArcGis) and produces GIS analysis and reporting as required.
• Prepares, organizes and conducts regular and ad-hoc security and safety briefings/ presentations as required.
• Routinely reports in writing and orally on relevant findings, developments and incidents.
• Assists the Chief of RARS to verify and provide comment on reported security incidents and maintains regular contact with RMO Regional Risk Management Officers.
• Prepares inputs to verbal and oral briefings by the Chief of RARS.
• Provides inputs to ad hoc thematic analysis reports as required.
• Facilitates RMO security meetings, briefings, conferences or workshops.
• Develops and maintains contact with all important stakeholders, program/project security focal points.
• Liaises with Regional Risk Managers Officers throughout Yemen in order to assess risk implications on as the result of security incidents.
• Assist in establishment and maintenance of a network of contacts for information exchange, including UN Organizations, NGOs, GOs, IOs, government, and other stakeholders on security-related issues.
• Organizes and coordinates security and risk management trainings.
• Ensures that all security administration (e.g. records, files, documentation) is handled in a thorough and timely manner.
• Conducts special tasks, researches and surveys on request.
• Provides technical translations (and interpretations when needed).
• Performs others duties and tasks mutually assigned by the line supervisor. Required qualifications, competences and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in one of the following subjects: peace and conflict studies, security studies, international affairs, political science or international development.
• Knowledge of quantitative research methods.
• Experience in post-conflict and /or insecure environments would be considered an asset.
• At least 3 years professional experience working in a comparable position for a humanitarian or development organization, or research institute (think tank) focusing on peace, conflict, humanitarian relief, or development.
• High ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent command of English and/or German language in all terms.
• Very good knowledge of ITC technologies (office communication, computer, phones, inter-/intranet);
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS, Grass GIS, Google Earth Pro, WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite software would be considered an asset.
• Very strong report writing and analysis skills.
• Discretion, flexibility, commitment, dedication, and creativity.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel regularly. Application Process
