Title of Position: Field Security Assistant
Classification: Grade G4
Duty Station: Aden, Yemen
Deadline: 28 February, 2014
Duration: Initially 3 months, renewable General Functions Under the overall supervision of Chief of Mission (COM) and the direct supervision of the Head of Aden Sub-Office and Field Security Officer (FSO), the Security Assistant will be responsible for the following functions. In particular, he/she will:
1. Assist the FSO in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the se-curity situation in the southern region;
2. Maintain regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies;
3. Provide technical assistance to HoO at ASMT meetings, in the absence of the FSO;
4. Following up on security enhancements in coordination with FSO, procurement /logistics staff and the HoO, pending COM and RMO approval;
5. Attend security cell meetings and update the FSO and Aden HoO, in particular before SMT and ASMT meetings;
6. Liaise with FSO and Security assistants in Sana’a on staff and premises security related issues;
7. Liaise with relevant UNDSS staff in Aden, participate in security-related fora as necessary and always update on security assessments and advisories;
8. Coordinate with DSS and relevant government counterparts for all organizational as-pects of escorted trips to the field for IOM national and international staff;
9. Liaise with security counterparts of other agencies to ensure best coordination and in-formation sharing;
10. Deal with the payment of shared monthly security costs (to UNHCR) in coordination with the admin/finance assistant and the HoO;
11. Maintain warden system and keep update of information related to IOM offices and residences;
12. Coordinate the work of Security Guards and Perform the daily check of guards atten-dance at checkpoints assigned to IOM;
13. Identify needed further enhancements related to security and provide suggestions to FSO;
14. Monitor close circuit cameras and ensure that all security-related devices are function-ing, and that relevant staff are able to use them;
15. Assist in ensuring of IOM office safety, fire safety and security preparedness and conduct evacuation drills. Implement evacuation/emergency security plans in coordination with FSO;
16. Provide support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness, and providing security orientation to IOM staff members;
17. Maintain an updated IOM staff list for IOM Aden Sub-Office;
18. Perform other duties as assigned by FSO related to security management of IOM Aden Sub-Office;
Desirable Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor Degree in social science, public administration, or a combination of relevant military or police training with experience would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience in conducting security assessments and a security briefing is a distinctive advantage.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience working in security management, law enforcement or military disciplines is a pre-requisite, preferably with international experience.
-A very good command of both written and oral communications skills in Arabic and English are required. Competencies a) Excellent communications skills, both oral and written; good drafting skills;

g) Ability to handle multiple tasks under time constraints;
h) Ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a team and with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds; Willingness to travel to remote locations.
i) High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), internet, email and databases.
