The British Embassy, Khartoum is seeking applications for the position of Political Officer (B3(L)) The Political Officer plays a key role in the Embassy’s political section, acting as the initial point of contact with political parties and civil society organizations. It is a demanding and challenging role that requires a broad understanding of the Sudanese political scene. The successful candidate will report on and analyze political issues that relate to the Embassy’s objectives, focusing on internal political development and the situation in Darfur, South Kordfan and Blue Nile. Requirements: · Candidates must have a keen interest in, and excellent background knowledge of, the political situation in Sudan. · A good network of contacts in Sudan. · Fluent in both English and Arabic (written and spoken) and have good translation skills. · A good understanding of North-South relations and the crisis in Darfur is particularly desirable. Benefits include competitive rates of pay and comprehensive medical scheme. The minimum salary for the grade is 5.035.8 SDG, with a cost of living allowance of 1071.6 SDG (20%) and transport allowance. More may be paid to reflect experience and qualifications.
