Job title:    Livelihood capacity building Assistant    Duty Station: Abs (Hajjah governorate), Hodeida, Taiz  Section/Team: DRC Registration and Protection Team     Reports to:      Protection Monitoring Officer (Abs)  Duration: with a 3-month probation period, and upon a successful evaluation, the position may be extended beyond 3 months depending on the availability of funds.      Purpose of the Job The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent non-governmental organisation working with refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants. DRC Yemen operates within a broader regional context including the horn of Africa. The core responsibility of the staff member will be to engage, through focus group discussions, trainings and daily interactions, local communities where migrants from the horn of Africa are known to land/transit through particularly in Hajjah, Hodeida and Taiz governorates. Such engagement will include carrying out information exchange sessions with diverse members of the communities and authorities with the aim to comprehend and document their views on refugees, asylum seekers and migrants fleeing to Yemen from the horn of Africa whilst providing them with information on the rights and obligations of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.  The Assistant will also assist DRC in the development and management of reporting and advocacy systems.  Main responsibilities 1.    Organize focus group discussions that take into account the need for diversity of the participants, with members of the host communities that reside at migrants’ entry and transit areas along the Red Sea coast of Yemen particularly in Hajjah, Hodeida and Taiz governorates.  During these sessions, inform local communities about the rights of migrants and refugees, while also providing them with information on DRC activities. 2.    Engage government and local authorities on issues relating to mixed migration through dialogue and information exchange sessions.  3.    Take the lead in coordinating and documenting the input from Registration and Protection Staff as well as other UN/NGO/INGO staff providing assistance to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants on the types of assistance provided to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in Yemen.  4.    Produce or assist in the production of information communication products (e.g. posters, brochures, and audio visual materials), proposing topics to be covered and determining target audience, obtaining technical clearance and coordinating design approval, printing procedures and distribution. 5.    Map and inventory of information campaigns already existing in the field of protection and assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, as well as target groups and lessons learnt and explore if this can be reused/adapted to Yemen to a specific target. 6.    To assess the capacity and learning needs of the Registration and Protection teams. 7.    To feed into the strategic planning cycle of the Protection team. 8.    Establish and maintain an electronic filing system to monitor training and focus group discussions and trainings undertaken.  Other •    Assist the Abs Protection Monitoring teams in undertaking patrols and screening of new arrivals disembarking along the Red Sea coast should additional support be required. •    Attend regular supervision sessions with line manager. •    Prepare reports on work undertaken as required. •    Undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the post and requested by the line manager Knowledge/Qualifications Essential Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint), web based management systems. Desirable Knowledge of Human Rights Law, Refugee Law. Extensive Communications qualification is desirable. Experience Essential Experience in engaging communities in Yemen through focus group discussions or other community engagement mechanisms. Experience in publishing, marketing or graphics design Experience working within and supporting a team in coordinating complex projects. Excellent command of English and Arabic, with the ability to translate from Arabic to English and vice versa. Desirable Experience of co-ordinating capacity building projects from planning to delivery to follow up, with a proven record of previous communication achievements. Experience of evaluating and assessing impact of training and/or capacity building programmes Experiences working with survivors of human rights violations, such as survivors of torture, asylum seekers or refugees  Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with diverse members and groups in Yemen Strong communication skills Strong writing and editing skills. Strong report writing skills. Able to develop and sustain good working relationships internally and externally and to be an effective and professional representative of the Registration and Protection team Working effectively as part of a team, sharing information and consulting when appropriate Extensive knowledge and confidence in working with Microsoft programmes, including Word and Excel. Special Factors Commitment to the work on the provision of protection and assistance to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants Strong capacity to pay attention to details, and edit/review documents as needed Willing to reside in Abs and travel to other entry/transit points where refugees, asylum seekers and migrants are known to land.
