WASH in School (WiS) Training Consultant Description:
Children have a right to basic facilities such as school toilets, safe drinking water, clean surroundings and basic information on hygiene. If these conditions are created, children learn better and can bring concepts and practices on sanitation and hygiene back to their families. Schools can play an important role in bringing about behavioral changes and promoting better health. Improved hygiene practices are essential if transmission routes of water- and sanitation-related diseases are to be cut. Life skills-based hygiene education seeks to combine the teaching of hygiene principles with children’s developing experience of life at home, at school and in the community. It aims, through participatory learning, to help children acquire knowledge, develop positive attitudes, and, critically, gain skills that enable them to improve their own lives and those of their families and communities. School teachers need to be trained before they can implement life skills-based hygiene education. This training should enable teachers to implement life skills-based education so that children develop new knowledge and healthy practice, use/maintain facilities and organize outreach into the community. Teachers need support to learn to use methods that engage students and parents in the education process and that require active participation.
Therefore, DRC-WASH Project seeking for a qualified Master tTrainers (MT) in the field of WASH in School to conduct a Training Workshop 4-5 days on WiS for school teachers. This workshop will be held in Abs district, Hajja governorate for about 30 participants in each location, starting on December 29, 2013. Main Tasks:
The consultant is expected to undertake the following assignments:
1. Prepare the WiS manual in English & Arabic languages, easiest to use at the level of school,
2. Develop the workshop agenda in English & Arabic languages and submitted it 3 days before the workshop conducting date for approval by the WASH Coordinator,
3. Develop all group works documents, and the practical tools that can be useding after training,
4. Conduct the training workshop in DRC project sites,
5. Provide Rrecommendations on any valued information relatedlessons learnt from the workshops,
6. Develop the Monitoring & Evaluation tools that can be used to for follow-up and document the required activities which to be done by teachers after training and during the lifecycle of WASH project.{what will we use the tools for?} which will be used after the training (during project’s lifecycle), Deliverables and timeframe for delivery:
1. Submit the WiS manual in English & Arabic languages……...… (Two days after signing of contract),
2. Submit the workshop agenda in English & Arabic languages…. (Three days before workshop),
3. Submit the final report with recommendations………………...… (One days after workshop),
4. Submit the Monitoring & Evaluation tools………………………… (Two days after workshop). Background and Experience of the Consultant:
- A University degree in water, sanitation, public health, environmental health of other relevant discipline.
- A reputable consultant with documented experience in conducting WiS training.
- Experience training in rural areas/schools.
- Strong analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
- Strong background in WASH and WiS.
- Excellent reporting and presentation skills.
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written. Application Process:
