Organization: International Organization for Migration Unit: Yemen Stabilization Initiative (YSI) Classification: Consultancy (MPH) Duration: 3 months (renewable) Salary: Based upon qualification and experience Worldwide IOM has over 400 offices and 5,600 staff focused on assisting migrants, governments and other stakeholders to address migration issues. IOM opened its mission in Sana’a in April 2007 and currently operates two field offices in the country. The translator is required to have a perfect command of their mother tongue and an excellent knowledge of English. They must also be able to write in a clean, clear and perfectly grammatical style in English. Under the overall supervision of Program Manger and direct supervision of Program Coordinator the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible for providing translation services/ support covering a broad range of documents and subjects dealt with by the program. Core Functions/ Responsibilities: 1. Translate mainly from Arabic to English, but also from English to Arabic full range of documents, reports, formal texts, manuscripts, official correspondence, publications and other material. Produce accurate and complete versions in the target language using the most appropriate range of vocabulary and the commonly accepted or es-tablished equivalents of professional, scientific or technical concepts and terms. 2. Undertake research related to the texts in hand. 3. Collect and verify terminology and references. 4. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Desirable Competencies: • Completed advanced university degree from a recognized school of translation, or at least a four year first level degree in some other relevant field or an equivalent qualification from a university in which English is the language of instruction; • At least three years of professional translation experience (or five years for candi-dates with a first university degree) at international level. Having succeeded TOFEL competitive examination an asset; • Sound language translation skills and excellent drafting ability in English effectively applies knowledge of relevant languages to deliver accurate translations in accor-dance with defined requirements. • Knowledge of and experience using word processing software, and ability to use computer based terminological and information tools. • takes responsibility and manages constructive criticism; • plans work, anticipates risks, and sets goals within area of responsibility; • displays mastery of subject matter; • contributes to a collegial team environment; Languages: • Perfect command of Arabic (mother tongue) and an excellent knowledge of English.
