Minimum requirements: EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in nursing or 4 Year Diploma (if applicant is from South Africa) or equivalent qualification of 3+ years duration from an accredited program. PREFERRED: Certificate proof of yearly CME-Continuing Medical Education. Continuous post graduate courses. BLS-Basic Life Support, ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support. PALS-Paediatric Advanced Life Support relevant to area of specialty. LICENSE: Registered Nurse in country of origin. AGE: Not exceeding the age of 55. EXPERIENCE: 4+ years current postgraduate experience in acute care tertiary hospital. 2+ years current experience as charge nurse in particular unit. Positive written references or verbal references, which must identify specific responsibilities as charge nurse. Evidence of required amount of experience and in-charge responsibility, in the area for which candidate is being considered. This may be obtained from the candidates’ supervisor, manager of DON, during a verbal or written reference check. LANGUAGE SKILLS: English essential. Note: On acceptance of an offer of employment from the hospital you will be required to pass the HAAD exam. Job Specifications: Job Specification: Provides professional leadership and acts as a role model and mentor to fellow nursing staff. Demonstrates critical thinking and provides leadership in conflict management and problem solving Promotes and supports a collaborative practice model Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family centered care Demonstrates a professional commitment to patients and fellow nursing staff. Adopts an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between health professionals. Liaises with Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor to ensure the patient care load is addressed with the appropriate staffing and skill mix in an environment which is safe for the patient and nurse. Ensures the nursing staff works within their capacity, experience, training and scope of practice. Participates as assigned on committees, working groups and other organization activities. Acts as a preceptor to less experienced staff as required. Monitors staff performance, providing regular constructive feedback, coaching, guidance and support to team members on the shift. Actively participates in organizational change in a constructive manner. Management of the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Monitors clinical care to ensure clinical standards are met. Identifies variances and initiates corrective measures as required In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, shares in the responsibility of formal evaluation of staff performance and achievement of annual performance goals Participates in unit budget preparation to ensure adequate resource availability and to monitor resource usage. The Hospital received its first accreditation in 2006 and was re-accredited again in 2010. The Hospital is a Health system facility and has a professional staff of 1200 employees, led by 10 obstetrics consultants, 12 specialists and 50 general practitioners in obstetrics as well as gynecology. They are supported by 25 neonatologists, over 120 midwives and more than 300 nurses.
