The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. In Yemen, the IRC is implementing an integrated WASH, Health, Nutrition and Reproductive Health emergency program. The IRC is seeking a dynamic and experienced team of health professionals to provide technical support to emergency programs implemented in Abyan. The position in based in Abyan with travel to field sites. Title: Community Health Officer Duty Station: Abyan with frequent visit to Aden Start date: 1 November 2013 Duration: Eight (8) months with possibility of extension SCOPE OF THE WORK: The Community Health Officer (CHO) will be responsible for supporting community health supervisors to select, train, and supervise Community Health Workers (CHWs). He/she will also promote collaboration and linkages between the mobile team/health facilities and the displaced people and surrounding communities through the formation of a network of community resources people. In addition, the CHO is responsible for sensitizing the communities and supporting them in identifying main health problems and help them devise appropriate actions to address their health problems. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Facilitate mapping of the community health actors, and asses the training needs • Organize training sessions in collaboration with Environmental Health Unit. • Supervise and provide on the job training to CHW supervisors, review and evaluate the performance of the CHWs/peer educators. • Implement the community health services package devised by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in coordination with partners and monitor its implementation • Guide the CHW’s supervisor in the development and implementation of their action plans. Conduct weekly supervisory meeting with CHW supervisors. Conduct regular visits to the CHWs/Peer Educators in their community to assess and assist in their work. • Assist with the formation of community health committees. • Identify and report immediately to the Health Coordinator (HC) and the Project Health Manager any problem that may interfere in achieving program objectives. • Monitor progress against grant work plan; promptly identifying any current or potential delays. REQUIREMENT: • Minimum one year professional experience in implementing and supervising community health mobilization projects • Proven ability in designing community mobilization, sensitization and awareness raising activities • Good training/capacity building skills • Excellent knowledge of the working environment of Aden and Abyan • INGO experience preferred • Personal qualities: Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment flexible and able to handle with pressure. • Fluency in English APPLLICATION PROCESS For all positions, applicants should send a CV and covering letter, both in English, to
