INTERSOS is currently looking to recruit a qualified staff for covering the following position of:  Child Protection Activities Coordinator National Staff Position  Job site    Aden, with frequent field travels to Abyan Reporting to    Activities coordinator Status    Fulltime – 5 workings days Starting date    Immediate   INTERSOS is an independent humanitarian aid organization committed to helping and supporting endangered populations, victims of wars and natural disasters.  INTERSOS implements the UNICEF-funded project “Ensuring a protective environment for boys and girls, including adolescents affected by armed conflict in Abyan Governorate” that relates to running of 18 Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) in Abyan. The Projects delivers, among the rest, psycho-social counselling to vulnerable children, capacity building and awareness raising on mine risk education (MRE), child protection (CP) and related issues to children, parents/guardians and partner associations. PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE:  The Activities Coordinator is responsible for overall coordination of activities of the 18 CFSs, under the supervision of the Project Manager (PM), in accordance with INTERSOS’ mandate, priorities and donor agreement. RESPONSIBLITIES: Overview: •    Providing guidance to the INTERSOS’ team and CFS facilitators (supervisors and volunteers) working in the 18 CFSs as to operational issues related to, among the rest, conduct of activities; •    Planning and coordinating on, with partner associations, UNICEF and other stakeholders, all educational, recreational, capacity building and awareness raising activities ongoing in 18 CFSs in Aden and Abyan; •    Conducting frequent monitoring field visits to closely supervise the INTERSOS’ CP and CFSs’ teams and ensure proper implementation of the project; •    Reporting on monthly basis and per request, to PM, authorized managers and donor, on the implementation progress, and providing recommendations for activities quality improvement and project sustainability;  •    Ensuring that the CFSs are run conform to UNICEF CFS Minimum Standards; •    Assisting the PM in any (other) issues related to the CFS. Detailed duties and responsibilities Management: -    Coordinating and supervising INTERSOS’ CFS-related activities, including performance indicator/target tracking, case management, internal and external capacity building and awareness raising activities; -    Ensuring high quality of INTERSOS’ services/outputs and related records and overall due project implementation in conformity with local laws, organizational regulations, donor agreement and the thereby stipulated goals, objectives and deadlines; -    Cooperating and coordinating activities between CFSs and with other INTERSOS’ offices, when requested, at the South Yemen programme level; -    Ensuring synergy with other INTERSOS programme activities in the area of responsibility; -    Ensuring that all administrative and financial issues related to the area of responsibility are conducted in accordance with INTERSOS’ guidelines and requirements; -    Providing suggestions / inputs related to financial management, when needed; -    Reporting, on a regular/periodic and ad hoc basis, on CFS activities and events in the area of responsibility, in accordance with the INTERSOS’ and UNICEF requirements. Capacity Building: -    Providing and ensuring ongoing mentorship (on-the-job support) and appraisal of the team members; -    Designing and implementing INTERSOS’ staff and CFSs’ facilitators training plans; -    Assisting in capacity building for relevant target groups through trainings, workshops and other joint activities. Advocacy: -    Liaising with relevant authorities, civil society groups, community leaders and other stakeholders working locally, aimed at facilitating open communication and advocating on/ resolving (through appropriate local responses) obstacles identified in the course of project implementation; -    Participating in general advocacy work in consultation with the CFSs’ supervisors, PM and/or authorized managers. Project/Programme development: -    Contribute to CFS development, including identification/recommendation of potential new areas/possibilities for INTERSOS’ intervention; -    Contributing to the development of strategic and operational decisions with regard to CFSs, pertaining, at minimum, to the designated geographic area of responsibility; -    Suggesting and implementing improvements to CFS-related monitoring and evaluation schemes. Representation: -    Developing and maintaining working relations with relevant UN agencies and other inter-, intra- and non-governmental organizations in the area of responsibility with the view to integrate INTERSOS’ activities into comprehensive protection approaches in the area; -    Serving as an INTERSOS’ field representative for donor visits/meetings; -    Maintaining positive and supportive relations with local government. Other: -    Undertaking extensive field visits in relevant districts of Aden and Abyan; -    Conducting the above mentioned and any other tasks delegated by the PM or authorized managers. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Education and experience: -    University degree in management, education, psychology, social sciences or other related discipline. Advanced university degree would be an advantage; -    Relevant professional experience of not less than three (3) years, preferably at a coordinator or management level and/or in humanitarian context; -    Prior experience or familiarity with INTERSOS; -    Prior experience in working with or coordinating with other international humanitarian organizations or governmental authorities; -    Prior experience with persons of concern (including internally displaced persons, affected host communities, extremely vulnerable individuals); -    Familiarity with overall protection and CP concepts and principles; -    Experienced in working with local associations and organizational development  Skills and traits: -    Excellent command of (written and spoken) Arabic and English; -    Computer/IT literacy (OS Windows/Linux, MS Office, Internet etc.); -    Excellent analysis and reporting; -    Excellent communication and organization; -    Excellent knowledge and understanding of local communities and customary rules; -    Punctuality and respect for applicable rules and procedures; -    Strongly objective and impartial reasoning; -    Ethical and transparent decision-making; -    Independence, i.e. conducting tasks with minimal supervision, and stress resilience; -    Self-motivation, goal/result-orientation and team work; -    Flexibility, tolerance and maturity.
